Bats or Birds

An original poem by Chrome Dome Mike Kimbro

Consider reading along to my Spoken Verse Performance.

VERSE 1

I heard my teenaged grandson say,

As we shared some video game fun.

"Yo, Grampa. Way back in the day,

How'd you know which girl was the one?"

So then, with a smile, I said...

VERSE 2

Whether she is your betrothed,

Or one of several steadies.

Widen the art to which she's exposed.

Get her opinion of theme medleys.

VERSE 3

And if she delights,

In heavy metal covers,

Of awesome 8-bit boss fights,

You've found a life long lover.

VERSE 4

And as you share,

Simultaneous soundtrack climax.

You should be aware,

What differentiates cover tracks.

VERSE 5

Look for tiny winged creatures,

Which adorn a guitar's fret board.

If one's got finely feathered features,

Over which four fingers soared.

That's probably RichaadEB.  (Samples A & B)

VERSE 6

Look to "Dune" to grasp what it spells,

But as a shedder, he's truly heroic.

Don't think he'll cover "Happy" by Pharrell.

His demeanor is like way too stoic.

VERSE 7

But if the praise "nocturnal"

Applies to the avian inlays.

And beings with life spans: eternal,

Come to mind during left hand displays.

That's probably FamilyJules.

VERSE 8

He abuses A satanic Schecter,

With counterpoint from Undertale.

Serving up sweet audio nectar,

On the bass, the chords, and the lead scales.

VERSE 9

I don't care which guy I listen to.

Either one's a guitar virtuoso.

Saw them together, and my mind just blew.

Watch this vid and you too will know so.

VERSE 10

Hear the message I'm transmitting:

When it's comes to women, here's the word.

Determine one fact before committing.

Are they into Bats or into Birds?

VERSE 11

Then my grandson shook his head: "No".

Seems we didn't agree on this issue.

He prefers the covers done on piano,   [ Samples:  #1 & #2 ]

And accordion. Hey, I couldn't argue.

VERSE 12

This woodwind cover truly rocks.

As does a cappella by Smooth McGroove.

While we all love the music of Toby Fox,

Would some Chrome Dome Mike lyrics be approved?

The End.
