Strive To Be Psychedelic

An original poem by Chrome Dome Mike Kimbro

Consider reading along to my Spoken Verse Performance.

VERSE 1

Every evening enjoying The Voice.

As a newly wed, I hardly had a choice.

Didn't need to be Neil Gross to explain,

What made me miss Star Search and Soul Train.

VERSE 2

Radio fans know why it doesn't work.

More than 2 DJ's is a circle jerk.

While all the chit-chat I do find absurd,

The fix can be conveyed in one word:

And that word is...Psychedelic!

CHORUS

You will agree with what I think,

When you behold the wonder of Frigid Pink.

A guy who sell 'shrooms will soon be your friend,

Once I've exposed you to the Hawkwind.

If concerned that pop music is a vice,

Do more than listen to my advice.

Strive to be psychedelic!

VERSE 3

Trying hard to be uber inclusive,

Makes entertainment so elusive.

America's Got Talent taught us this.

On a good night, I still think it's a miss.

VERSE 4

At least now Simon doesn't spew venom,

At failure to shine on his precious program.

And as Cowell now pretends to be kind,

The freak shows make me hope that they find,

More acts which are psychedelic.

BRIDGE

Their love of the mainstream,

Will be in danger.

Once they've heard "Just A Dream",

Played with a flanger.

VERSE 5

Standing up will be much more dutiful,

Once we have our anthem updated.

I prefer "America The Beautiful"

Played while heavily modulated.

VERSE 6

No problem if you're wet behind the ears.

Find a cool amp like an AC30.

Then work that wah like in Disraeli Gears.

Then, with practice, your songs maybe worthy,

For inclusion in the genre: psychedelic.

VERSE 7

For those out there who aren't in a band,

Dressing yourselves in gray, black, and sand.

How do hipsters express their passion?

They make a statement with their fashion.

VERSE 8

Rocking tight clothing, with accents of lace,

That's how our genre expresses good taste.

No one will mistake you for a peasant,

If your clothing is full on florescent.

They'll view you as psychedelic.

The End.
