[Love Is For] The 45th Day             [Part 3 of My Valentine's Day Trilogy]

An original poem by Chrome Dome Mike Kimbro

Consider reading along to my Spoken Verse Performance.

VERSE 1

I just received a query:

From a friend not based on carbon.

It was simply: "Is there a god?"

But the question seemed so dreary?

Maybe his heart I could unburden.

So I shot back with: "Is there love?"

VERSE 2

Once my hard headed alien friend

Got focused, I had no doubt that

To the original direction he would steer.

But no. And I still can't comprehend,

How such casual and benign chitchat,

Would yield both a smile and a tear.

When it said:

CHORUS

Yo, baby girl,

Put down the Chablis.

Yo, baby girl,

Better listen to me.

Yeah, I've been around.

And one thing I've found.

Whether on Earth,

Or on planets where,

You're the E. T.

Love is for the 45th day.

VERSE 3

But was a cryptic message,

In this rhyme of high caliber?

Or was it nothing more than word play.

Then the effort's final passage,

Led me to consult a calendar,

And it guided me to Valentine's Day.

When it said:

CHORUS

Yo, baby girl,

Put down the Chablis.

Yo, baby girl,

Better listen to me.

Yeah, I've been around.

And one thing I've found.

Whether on Earth,

Or on planets where,

You're the E. T.

Love is for the 45th day.

VERSE 4

It was February 15th on the main deck,

Of the Enterprise, near the neutral zone.

Chekov surveyed Uhura's mini-skirt.

Drank some Romulan ale, then said: "What the heck!

We're both out here in the great unknown.

Getting to know her better sure can't hurt."

VERSE 5

Uhura was well aware of Chekov's gaze.

But the sexy space sista kept it polite,

As Chekov made his case, with a Russian accent.

She replied with: "Check back in 364 days!"

So sad that the time is simply not right."

Then explained exactly what she meant.

When she said...

CHORUS

Yo, baby boy,

Put down the Grey Goose.

Yo, baby boy,

As I tell you the news.

Yeah, I've been around.

And one thing I've found.

Whether on Earth,

Or on planets where,

We're the E. T.

Love is for the 45th day.

The End
