(Are You) In It To Win It

VERSE 1

I was heading back to see my family,

When a fine young thing sat next to me,

After boarding at the last bus depot.

We talked, and the more friendly we grew.

I used all the old lines, so tried and true.

And I asked if she already had a beau.

VERSE 2

Then she smiled and said she was a bachelorette.

That’s as close to ‘No’ as she needed to get.

So it was up to me to peak this lady’s interest.

But she said..

Hey, I don’t care if you’re just a clerk,

Or you’re on track to be the next Captain Kirk.

Answer this correctly, and I’ll be impressed:

CHORUS 2

Are you in it to win it?

Or would you let pure reason

Stand in your way.

Are you in it to win it?

If offered the lead next season

What would you say?

If I gave you the rose,

Tell me,

Would you propose?

Cause it would be treason

If you walked away.

Are you in it to win it?

VERSE 3

The bus stopped at a small Indiana town.

Got a taste of Main Street as we walked around.

Then up pulled a truck driven by her father  (“Uh Oh.”)

The door opened and out stepped a really big man.

He looked me over, paused, then held out a hand.

And said..

One thing I’ve gotta know, before you can date my daughter…

CHORUS 3

Are you in it to win it?

Or would you let pure reason

Stand in your way.

Are you in it to win it?

If offered the lead next season

What would you say?

If she gave you the rose,

Tell me,

Would you propose?

Cause it would be treason

If you walked away.

Are you in it to win it?

BRIDGE

I had a dream, she was The Bachelorette.

Music plays as we gaze into each other’s eyes.

I spoke from the heart, said on my love she could bet.

At the close, got the rose, to my surprise.

VERSE 4

Later her daddy took me aside.

Offered a million bucks to decide.

That I needed to reboard that bus, alone.

But while a one and six zeros was a beautiful sight,

Leaving her like that just wouldn’t be right.

But for the right price the wedding could be...postponed…Ha!

CHORUS 4

I was in it to win it!

I wouldn’t let my greed

Make me a whore.

I was in it to win it!

Your daughter’s love is all I need

She’s who I adore.

If she gives me the rose,

Oh yes sir,

I’m gonna propose!

And now my new creed

From here on is for sure…

Yeah, I’m in it to win it.

The End.
