Changing Majors               [Part 2 of my College Trilogy]

An original poem by Chrome Dome Mike Kimbro

Consider reading along to my Spoken Verse Performance.

VERSE 1

You've seen a steady drop,

In your average grade.

Now your Nana calls you a tool.

If the slide doesn't stop,

You could try to learn a trade.

Or maybe even stay in school,

If you change your major.

VERSE 2

From the very start,

I longed to be an engineer,

Until Differential Equations.

Now my future's in the arts,

Writing words for balladeers.

Yeah, I'm done competing with Asians.

Since I changed my major.

CHORUS

Changing majors,

Changing majors.

It’s time to reassess,

Your chosen field of study.

When your transcript's a mess,

And your future's looking muddy.

I'd be right to wager,

That you're not a teenager.

So take a look at your major...

And make a change.

VERSE 3

I need just 3 credits

To get my degree.

A course that’s only offered in autumn.

I wouldn’t be in this fix

‘Cept for getting that ‘D’,

On a class in my major program.

So, once again, I'll change my major.

That's 5 times, and counting...

CHORUS

Changing majors,

Changing majors.

It’s time to reassess,

Your chosen field of study.

When your transcript's a mess,

And your future's looking muddy.

I'd be right to wager,

That you're not a teenager.

So take a look at your major...

And make a change.

VERSE 4

So, when things look bleak,

And Subway's looking good.

Or your prospects include 'pole dancer'.

The relief that you seek,

From not achieving what you should,

In college, is found in this answer:

You should simply change your major.

CHORUS

Changing majors,

Changing majors.

It’s time to reassess,

Your chosen field of study.

When your transcript's a mess,

And your future's looking muddy.

I'd be right to wager,

That you're not a teenager.

So take a look at your major...

And make a change.

VERSE 5

Working hard at 3 courses,

As well as 40 hours,

You're burning the candle at both ends.

But when unseen dark forces,

Cause adversity which sours,

Your plans, seek the council of your friends:

"Have you considered changing your major?"

CHORUS

Changing majors,

Changing majors.

It’s time to reassess,

Your chosen field of study.

When your transcript's a mess,

And your future's looking muddy.

I'd be right to wager,

That you're not a teenager.

So take a look at your major...

And make a change.

The End
