Just Praise, Don't Pray
An original poem by Chrome Dome Mike Kimbro
Consider reading along to my Spoken Verse Performance.
VERSE 1
Middle of the month most Virgo,
Eating up the Facebook feed.
A divine post pulled up, ergo,
It got my full attention, indeed.
VERSE 2
An image of text on beige background.
Left this reader slack jawed and blinking.
To me, the substance was quite profound.
Could this be what Jehovah was thinking?
CHORUS
Just praise, don't pray.
When things don't go your way.
If you stay off your knees,
The Good Lord you will please.
Because God says:
"Don't pray, just praise."
BRIDGE
I recall a scene, from a Star Trek movie,
Where Shatner thought it was odd,
That a deity sought a star ship for passage.
In this meme, the author says it's my duty,
In the Holy Name of God,
To use Facebook to spread this message:
CHORUS
Just praise, don't pray.
When things don't go your way.
If you stay off your knees,
The Good Lord you will please.
Because God says:
"Don't pray, just praise."
VERSE 3
To enjoy the eye of Providence,
Be sure that songs are what you raise.
Does it mean that God favors Protestants,
When he says: "Don't pray, just praise"?
CHORUS
Just praise, don't pray.
When things don't go your way.
If you stay off your knees,
The Good Lord you will please.
Because God says:
"Don't pray, just praise."
The End.
