From Flintlocks to Phasers [Part 1 of my Firearms Trilogy]
An original poem by Chrome Dome Mike Kimbro
Consider reading along to my Spoken Verse Performance.
VERSE 1
It was February 2018,
When a Falcon Heavy Rocket generated,
Lots of thrust, and one incredible scene.
My inner child was reinvigorated.
VERSE 2
We all felt so proud of America,
As those boosters came down in unison.
But watching other news feeds from Florida,
Has quite a few of us rethinking guns.
VERSE 3
Now students and parents want to change the rules.
"Please, please, make it stop!" is what they beg us.
But while we want kids to be safe in their schools,
It appears we've forgotten about Vegas.
CHORUS
I'm not talking about the erasure,
Of our amendment number two.
But as we move from flintlocks to phasers,
It certainly needs a major redo.
And there's no better time than right now.
VERSE 4
If you feel mass shootings aren't normal,
And have faith that we can do better.
Unless you're too timid to start a quarrel,
Now's the time to put our heads together.
VERSE 5
Not near enough to say it's depressing,
When our 2nd amendment rights are misused.
The fix involves more than window dressing.
No, posterity won't let us be excused.
CHORUS
I'm not talking about the erasure,
Of our amendment number two.
But as we move from flintlocks to phasers,
It certainly needs a major redo.
And there's no better time than right now.
BRIDGE
As seventeen of his flock lay dead,
The Almighty looked down from a cloud.
After a sigh, here's what he said:
"Of America, it's hard to be proud."
"There they sit, awaiting more aggression,
By deranged males who fixate on firearms.
Some have dozens in their possession.
Preparing for the order to take up arms."
"And how, exactly, would that order come down?
Disguised as Marshall Law would be my first choice.
Brought on by the bombing of a Pacific town.
Broadcasted using Twitter as the voice."
"I'm thinking it's time that someone spoke up,
About personal killing machines.
Anything to get Americans woke up,
Lest I deal with them like Philistines."
VERSE 6
While checking at the point of sale,
Is, of course, the primary concern.
Homemade guns don't leave a trail,
And should justify a prison term.
VERSE 7
One's proficiency need not be in metals,
Now that all are permitted to sinter. >>>>
Knowledge of CAD is fundamental,
As is a high quality 3D printer.
CHORUS
I'm not talking about the erasure,
Of our amendment number two.
But as we move from flintlocks to phasers,
It certainly needs a major redo.
And there's no better time than right now.
VERSE 8
As we look ahead, hoping for a new dawn,
One fact cannot be overstated:
The time for large clips and bump stocks is gone,
Whether purchased, received or fabricated.
VERSE 9
Those who are bothered by barbarity,
Should feel that our inaction is a disgrace.
When voting records don't show sincerity,
The next elections will repeal and replace.
The End.
