Gandhi in Thigh High Boots
An original poem by Chrome Dome Mike Kimbro
Please read along to my Spoken Verse Performance.
New Years Day, AM. I'm feeling just fine.
My baby's ill, so we got to bed early.
Added more verses to projects of mine.
Brought up Youtube and found something girly.
Yeah, consulting Morissette sure wasn't new,
For the inspiration her work produces.
What composers can achieve when they want to!
But does my work need a groove like in "Excuses"?
Dear Lord, I surely do hope it does.
If not that, then maybe a "Lens" like bass line.
But I keep pointing to "Excuses" because,
I find the Broadway-esque aria sublime.
In "Empathy" she has bright piano do,
Jangly work rhythm guitar might do better.
And the percussion work in "Out Is Through",
Compliments the lyrics which she threw together.
Now "Big Sur" is cool though sedated,
Early 60's vibe, snuck in as a bonus track.
I love the way that "Me" is modulated,
By her, or the engineer on the back.
And it does have a Jack Kerouac nod.
Along with footage of Alanis hitchhiking.
But clothing hides the curvy parts of her bod,
And the Plymouth's color isn't to my liking.
If I were half the fan I profess to be,
A four door V-6 I'd be restoring.
But it takes 17 seconds to get to 60.
Besides, the Fury I's tail lights are boring.
Yeah, sure, they do favor a Roadrunner's.
But it's that mighty muscle car's only flaw.
A 426 hemi would be loads funner.
There's one in lime green for sale in Arkansas.
Then while flipping through the Facebook feed,
The soundtrack assumes anthem like qualities.
With "Today", Alanis got across the need,
For change in California localities.
But there, in that "Oh-ho-ho" close out,
Alanis revealed the purpose of her art work.
Her love and admiration was not in doubt,
For the gal celebrated in that patchwork.
A lovely creature, with strong presence,
Was sharing a message in those images.
Many young folks were soaking up the pleasance.
As if preparing for later scrimmages.
Admittedly, I'm a fiend for intrigue.
Not digging deeper is for simpeletons.
Who's the chick with whom Alanis was in league?
I searched Google for Marianne Williamson.
The first message found was rich in imagery.
A temple and stream in gold illumination.
The words she spoke beat most prose poetry,
And that was merely the invocation.
Then Marianne stepped from behind the pulpit,
And the camera pulled back to display.
A scarf worn over a total black outfit.
So much the standard women favor today.
I'm not implying she was the least bit goth,
The scarf was large and bright as a Christmas bow.
What's the uniform of a woman of the cloth?
A nun's habit is the only one that I know.
As I listened to the message she conveyed:
I write because I don't have enough?!?
My metaphysical interest was betrayed.
Ignoring those sexy boots was kind of tough.
Much more on Ms Williamson, I tried to find.
Bounced around on her Youtube channel.
"Blasting them with God", stuck out in my mind.
But would she be as majestic in flannel?
I assumed Marianne won by a land slide.
Something the ballot box tally refutes.
How could she loose, with Alanis on her side?
California's Gandhi in thigh high boots.
But another was chosen to rule the realm.
So her supporters soaked up tears with tissues.
Were voters not ready for a woman at the helm?
Or did it come down to the church and state issue?
Well, who the hell cares?!? Certainly not me.
But this whole experience surely shows.
There's gold in the details that we all see,
In today's Alternative Rock videos.
