I Know Your Family

VERSE 1
If someone tries to inform you,
That they know a 1st or 2nd cousin.
Even if it seems like they don't have a clue,
For your family's sake, try to use some discretion.
VERSE 2
There are folks who place much import,
On celebs who might share their ancestry.
Usually some guy who once played a sport,
Or a TV star, which they see rarely.
VERSE 3
They tell all with whom they consort,
'Bout some movie star with whom they share genes.
It's pretty much the same old report:
Met at a family reunion while teens.
VERSE 4
But the problem is, to A celeb,
That meeting doesn't carry the same weight.
If your Wiki page isn't out on the web,
Of your existence they might just debate.
VERSE 5
An up and coming announcer,
Was strolling with a world class singer.
Who said: " I know your family in [some where]."
Not regarding what counts to her,
He just hit her with a zinger:
"Sorry, I don't have any family there."
VERSE 6
This happened before a Super Bowl game,
And yes, the whole exchange was televised.
How he handled it was quite a shame,
And now it's far too late to be revised.
VERSE 7
What if the celeb simply forgot,
About some of his extended family?
The whole exchange would leave them distraught,
Cause you know their friends caught the calamity.
VERSE 8
You feel staying near is compulsory.
Why in the world would they choose to roam!?!
But not everyone has the luxury,
Of living close to their ancestral home.
VERSE 9
Right now, someone sits on a barstool,
Going on about the time y'all met.
Later, please don't make them feel like a fool,
Say: "Hi there, cuz!", and they'll be in your debt.
VERSE 10
I'm not saying that you should proceed,
With the study of your whole family tree.
But at least take note of those who still breath,
Including kin folk you get when you marry.
CLOSE
So, if someone tries to inform you,
That they know a 1st or 2nd cousin.
Even if it seems like they don't have a clue,
For your family's sake, try to use some discretion.
The End.
