The Fascinator

Consider reading along to my Spoken Verse Performance.

 

 

VERSE 1

 

In olden times, a queen surveyed her locks,

 

Then called in the fashion authority.

 

She pushed him hard to think outside the box,

 

To guarantee her style superiority.

 

The desired effect was merely an accent,

 

Since hiding her hairdo was out of the question.

 

With feathers and lace they began their ascent,

 

To the peak of the accessorizing profession.

 

And the result was what we now call...

 

The Fascinator.

Fascinating,

 

Fascinating,

 

I know you wanna be...

 

Fascinating.

 

At the Run for the Roses,

 

Or a simple coronation.

 

Add glisten to your poses,

 

With feathered ornamentation.

 

Hey, you know I'm talkin' 'bout:

 

The Fascinator.

 

 

VERSE 2

 

If I sound fascinator addicted.

 

That anything less is just a fail.

 

On hair style topics I am conflicted.

 

Take extensions or a pony tail.

 

On occasion, they're something I enjoy.

 

 

But why spend all your money on purses,

 

Or a new pair of shoes by Ferragamo.

 

If the relationship between those and eating is 'verses'

 

There's only one direction in which you should go.

 

No, I'm not suggesting you wear corduroy.

 

 

I don't care that you wake up grumpy.

 

Calling me names like Flakespeare and Stumpy.

 

Assuming, of course, that your wardrobe isn't frumpy,

 

And you're rockin' a fascinator,

 

Then you're a goddess, like Helen of Troy.

 

 

I feel it necessary to thank Mr. T,

 

From Rocky, he's well known to my audience.

 

He wore feathered earrings for all to see,

 

With the Native American nod being obvious.

 

So putting feathers on a hat is OK,

 

To give a fascinating look to a boy.

Who cares if you're not well read.

 

Or if pasta is your cooking limit.

 

Hey, I do love spaghetti.

 

The crucial thing is that they're on your head,

 

And not so much what's in it.

 

Now's the time to drop the confetti...
