Neon sign above the Saxon Pub on Lamar Street in Austin, TX. Live music is the main course of the fine club, as I've seen both Carolyn Wonderland and The Paula Nelson Band play there, on the same night.

Weekend in Austin

Song lyrics by Chrome Dome Mike Kimbro

A RELYRIC of the song "Phoenix" by Dan Fogelberg.

Consider reading along to my Spoken Verse Performance.

VERSE 1

I have worked hard,

And I’m all beat down.

I have worked hard,

And I’m all beat down.

Week is over,

Now we’re Austin bound.

VERSE 2

We made Waco.

David F. Koresh was a clown.

We made Round Rock,

But the traffic made us frown.

So close, and yet, so far from downtown.

VERSE 3

Off at 6th Street,

to Antone’s and Club de Ville.          [Note:  Both are gone]

Blanco’s blonde treat,    [Note: That's Fireman's #4 on tap, baby]

Drank til we got our fill.

Heard “Me Gusta”, man that was a thrill.

VERSE 4

Ruta Maya,             [Note:  Ruta Maya is no longer a music venue, except Tuesdays' acoustic open mike.]

Reggae from the balcony.

Jimmy Vaughan, yeah,

Smooth at The Gallery.

Caught Eliza’s “All You Want From Me.”

Photos of cardinals taken in the town of Lakeway, Texas in the Hill Country of Texas.

VERSE 5

From the Bee Caves,

To Artz Rib House, sure was grand.             [Note:  Artz Rib House has closed.]

South on Lamar,

Sign said Paula Nelson Band.                [Notes:  That venue was the Saxon Pub, and it's still there.]

Then a Red Head killed us with “This Land”.

VERSE 6

I love Austin

But high costs there to reside.

But here’s my plan.

Rent a lot on Riverside.

Then drive in a spacious double-wide.

VERSE 7

Austin in the

Texas hill country.

Austin is our

Capital city.

Austin is the

Only place for me.

Photos of cardinals and St. Francis of Assisi which were taken in the town of Lakeway, Texas in the Hill Country of Texas just Northwest of Austin, near Lake Travis.

BRIDGE

This towns got so many things, yeah,

So many places to go.

I swam in Barton Springs, yeah,

And I sun bathed at Hippie Hollow.

They speak of just being different.

NORMALCY’s all that they fear.

But from all that I’ve seen here, y’all,

It’s no thang to keep Austin weird.

VERSE 8

I love Austin,

But my children live up here.

I love Austin,

So the fact is I’ll stay here.

No big deal cause we’ve got Real Ale beer.

Yee-haw!

VERSE 9

Austin in the

Texas hill country.

Austin is our

Capital city.

Austin is the

Only place for me.

The End.
